When you hear jersey pork roll you mouth begins to water. This pork role is one of the best tasting pork roll in the world. Its popularity is ever increasing and is not limited to just New Jersey and Philadelphia, where it is most common. The jersey pork roll is basically a pork product which is in the shape of a sausage. The roll was not developed recently but instead has some history behind it. It was first created in 1856 by John Taylor who was residing in New Jersey and till today the original recipe is still followed. Initially the roll was called Taylor Ham to honour the person who created it, but was later changed to jersey pork roll.
Now days there is not one place but many which make the pork roll, each one with their variation. The residents of the area had the advantage of using this meat because it was originally produced and imported, but now with online facilities people can use their own fresh meat. The rolls have a tendency of curling up in the centre which does not allow the meat to cook evenly. Instead you are left with meat which is cooked unevenly; some parts remain half cooked after the preparation. You need not worry about eating uncooked meat as over the years people have devised a way of cutting the meat before cooking so that it cooks evenly and to perfection.
The cutting method involves you making three cuts from the outer edge toward the centre to about three quarters of an inch. These cuts are in constant circumference of the roll. Earlier a cooked roll used to be called a fireman or bacon Pac-Man. The roll is not limited to itself but instead can be used in cooking a variety of recipes. The most common and tastiest recipe would be the one in which the roll is used to make sandwiches. The meat is complimented with rich sauces and salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. Each place which makes the sandwich has their own way of preparing the sandwich and with their own recommended dressing. With ingredients like that there is no wonder why the jersey roll is in great demand.
