Mocean Worker

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

I wrote this one sunday afternoon while living in South Bend this summer.

Normally, Sunday mornings are not full of musical exploration seeing that Holy Cross, the church we were going to by Notre Dame, has no music but a prerecorded bell that goes off after mass is over (Brother Isaac let me press the button on the remote to ring the bells last week- it was awesome). But this was not just any Sunday. While listening to the NPR Jazz station, which normally is in place to cover the sound of awkwardness in elevators, I heard something upbeat and cool. It was Mocean Worker’s remixed Jazz that “gets your butt moving before it appeals to your mind.” He is a producer that mixes jazz licks and distresses them so they sound old timey and adds a new funky beat. NPR was doing a special about him which is really fun. Have a listen if you have a few minuets.

Listen to the program online
or hear some tracks on his myspace (my favorite track is ‘Right Now’)
